My Marae Trip
When it was time to go to the marae we got our bags and put them in the cars and then zoom!
We left school, it was a couple minutes later and we were there. Everyone was so excited. Then we
got out of the cars and walked over to the front of the Marae and we sung the waiata, He Honore.
The teachers and parents came over to help my class and room five who were staying for the
night at our local marae in Hokitika. We went there to learn about the Marae and the maori
culture.

When we got to go inside the Arahura Marae I looked up and I saw these really cool lights. They
changed colors.They changed to green, red, blue, light blue, orange, yellow, purple and pink.They
were really cool and there was about twenty six of them and they were colored. The carvings
were carved really well. They were handmade and they put colours on them to show what tribe
they came from.

At night it was very dark and we had made our beds. We played some inside games. The first game
I did was the technology challenge and then I did games with Adrian and Phaedra. After the
inside games, two of the teachers told my class and room 5 some interesting stories. Then we
went to sleep.

In the morning when we woke up we went for a walk by Lake Mahinapua and we had to find
certain plants.After we found the plants we finally made it to the end and the water was clean
and flat. There was about five mud spots that some people stepped in.

When we went to the river we went to find greenstone. Charlie found a big piece of greenstone.
I found a little peace of the greenstone but then I lost it Because Noah bumped me.

I enjoyed the marae and the teachers and parents helping us. I found all the carvings about the
people who have passed away really interesting. I am glad I went to the marae.
